We are delighted to announce that Noah’s Ark is Memery Crystal’s Charity of the Year for 2024.

Noah’s Ark was established by Michael McInerney following the death of a child in his close family in a local hospital. Unhappy with the options available for the child, he launched Noah’s Ark’s care for children and families in 2006 after years of fundraising.

They are now one of the UK’s leading children’s hospices, providing care for over 350 children and their families every year. They believe that every baby, child and young person who is seriously unwell, and their loved ones, should have access to expert and compassionate palliative care from the point of diagnosis. Partnering with London’s NHS trusts and social care organisations, they have built a home, a community and a team to make that difference.

In December 2022, Memery Crystal chose KEEN London as our charity for the year for 2023. KEEN provides free and highly sought-after one-to-one support at sports and games sessions in some of the most deprived parts of London. Through their sessions they aim to develop and improve children’s personal, social, emotional and physical wellbeing, working towards goals that are set when they join.

In December 2021, Memery Crystal chose The Matthew Elvidge Trust as our charity of the year for 2022. The main objective of the Trust is to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of wellbeing and good mental health and ensure that everyone and particularly young people develop the knowledge and skills to keep mentally healthy.

In December 2019, Memery Crystal chose Duchenne UK as our charity of the year for 2020. Duchenne UK’s aim is to fund and accelerate treatments and a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and to do so in a decade.

DMD is a genetic (inherited) disorder which causes muscle weakness and wasting. More common in young boys between the ages of 2-5 years old, the disease may mean that most affected young people lose the ability to move their arms and experience more problems with breathing and their heart.

To achieve their mission, Duchenne UK adopts an integrated approach which has three main areas of activity/focus:

1) Funding Research and Trials – their approach is focused on advancing research, and getting treatments to patients as quickly as possible.  They actively seek out projects and possible therapies, as well as investing globally in both basic science and translational research.

2) Accelerating Drug Development – they proactively invest in every stage (basic science research; pre-clinical testing; clinical trials & trial support; government approval; approval & access) of the drug development timeline to improve and accelerate the process.

3) Community Engagement & Support – the charity was set up by parents to speed up treatments for all those living with MDM; their drive and ambition comes from a deep understanding of the pain and the challenges that families face.

To assist them with achieving their objectives, Memery Crystal will participate in fundraising efforts over the next year, as well as giving a contribution via the Memery Crystal Charitable Trust.

In December 2018, Memery Crystal chose The Hollie Foundation as our charity of the year for 2019. The foundation was set up when 2 year old Hollie was diagnosed with Niemann Pick Type C (‘NP-C’), an extremely rare and devastating genetic condition which causes neurological decline and childhood dementia and for which there is currently no cure.

The charity supports families and other organisations working in the NP-C field through their grant giving programme; providing funding for research, specialist equipment, the enhancement of vital support services, and other social and medical needs.

To assist them with achieving their objectives, Memery Crystal will participate in fundraising efforts over the next year, as well as giving a contribution via the Memery Crystal Charitable Trust.

In December 2017, Memery Crystal chose Olivia’s Vision as our charity of the year. The charity Olivia’s Vision was founded in 2010 by Memery Crystal CEO Nick Davis and Nicola after their young daughter Olivia was diagnosed with the sight-threatening disease Uveitis.

Grief Encounter, supports bereaved children and their families to help alleviate the pain caused by the death of someone close. Their services are free, funded solely through the generosity of their supporters.

Setup in 2003 by Dr Shelley Gilbert MBE, Grief Encounter is one of the UK’s leading bereaved child charities, providing free, pioneering services and support to bereaved children, young people and their families.

In December 2015, Memery Crystal announced its third annual Charity of the Year – Josie’s Dragonfly, brightening the lives of children & young people living with cancer.

Josie’s Dragonfly was set up by Josie’s parents. Josie died of cancer at age 16. Once she knew her illness was no longer curative, she stopped chemotherapy to enjoy life and in the last few months of her life she designed a dragonfly brooch to be made into jewellery and sold to raise money for other young cancer sufferers. Before she died, she raised over £10,000 for the Newcastle hospital where she was treated.

The templates for the dragonfly arrived a few days before she died. Since then the charity have made and sold the jewellery to raise funds for other young cancer sufferers. The charity exists to give gifts to other terminally ill young people so that in the last few weeks of their life they can enjoy something that they can afford and not have to be dependent on their parents for. It also gifts gift boxes of craft materials to the young people’s section of cancer wards up and down the country.

Support makes a very direct and positive difference at an incredibly difficult point in their lives, providing gifts to terminally ill young people in the last few weeks of their life.

As our Charity of the Year, Josie’s Dragonfly will receive a contribution from the Memery Crystal Charitable Trust. In addition, the firm will be working throughout the year on a variety of fundraising events, organised by our staff.

In 2014, Memery Crystal announced its second annual Charity of the Year – The Jimmy Mizen Foundation, providing positive change for young people in London and the UK.

The Foundation was founded by Jimmy’s parents in 2008, in response to his tragic murder. The purpose of the charity is to promote a message of peace, hope and forgiveness for the future, improve the choices made by young people and build stronger and safer communities for all.

The work done by the foundation stretches out across schools, local councils, prisons, local business people and the voluntary sector, both in London and across the UK.

As our Charity of the Year, The Jimmy Mizen Foundation has received a contribution from the Memery Crystal Charitable Trust. In addition, the firm will be working throughout the year on a variety of fundraising events, organised by our staff.

Since October 2012, Memery Crystal has been an official Legal Partner of Advocates for International Development (A4ID), a charity working to eradicate global poverty through the provision of pro bono legal support, skills and knowledge.

A4ID draws together the legal, academic and development communities in three key ways: through its broker service, through the provision of training programmes and through its work to influence the international development sector to use law to greater effect. It provides a powerful tool for groups seeking to secure the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals, the internationally recognised targets for lifting people out of poverty.

Through its innovative broker service, A4ID puts law firms such as Memery Crystal in touch with charities and not for profit organisations who need pro bono legal advice. Since it was established in 2006, A4ID has brokered over £25 million worth of free legal advice in projects ranging from the protection of land rights in Niger, to microfinance projects in Tunisia and advice to workers in orphanages in India.

Since partnering with A4ID, Memery Crystal lawyers have provided pro bono advice to the Fairtrade Foundation and the World Bank.

Poetry in Wood is an art-and-craft based training and enterprise project giving people with learning disabilities an opportunity to express themselves and capitalise on their individual creative abilities.

Poetry in Wood was started by Spitalfields Small Business Association (SsBA) in 1991 with funding from Spitalfields Task Force. Its unique training programmes include accredited courses in woodwork and print making and are designed to recognise ability over disability, build confidence, teach life skills and create meaningful employment opportunities.

Poetry in Wood’s enterprise programme provides employment to students qualifying from its training programmes. The enterprise team creates a wide variety of works, including external signage, decorative murals, interior decorations, picture and mirror frames and much more.  Much of the work is commissioned by private and corporate sponsors, including City firms, architects, builders, government agencies, voluntary sector projects, and local and national charities.

Memery Crystal has partnered with Poetry in Wood since 2008, commissioning artists to create the artwork on our website, as well as a number of site specific art commissions for our office lobby and boardrooms.
