Stephen Milne is a consultant with the CMT sector group, specialising in all manner of commercial contracts, including outsourcing arrangements, agency and distribution agreements, joint ventures, tender responses, franchise contracts, marketing, introduction, reseller and maintenance and support agreements. Steve has a wealth of experience across the range of sectors the group deals with. He provides commercial, practical advice to allow practical implementation of recommendations for the best results and focuses on ensuring his relationship with clients enables them to view him and his team as back up to their in-house counsel function, or as the function itself where none currently exists.
Steve is dual specialised and is also a consultant in our Employment Department. He specialises in human relations management including all aspects of hiring, continuing employment, dispute resolution and dismissal. Steve provides strategic and practical advice in relation to management of business reorganisations, restructurings, outsourcing and agency arrangements and redundancy programmes for a wide range of businesses and individuals. He also negotiates for and against senior executives on engagement and exit and advises on bonus plan and restrictive covenants disputes and enforcement.
Steve is recommended for both his commercial contracts and his employment work in the 2013 edition of The Legal 500 UK, where he is described as a ‘commercial and practical’ lawyer who ‘makes things very easy for the layman to understand’. He has also been ranked as a Leading Individual in commercial contracts in the 2014 edition of Chambers UK, where he has been praised as ‘extremely bright and commercial, without looking to complicate matters with legal jargon’.
Steve regularly presents at seminars both within the firm (for clients and colleagues) and externally at clients’ locations (often to the day-to-day management teams), on a variety of practical topics for both domestic and international markets. He is a member of the Employment Lawyers’ Association.
