On Tuesday 24 November Hed Amitai and Rich Risino from our Private Wealth Team hosted a webinar discussing topical private wealth issues with several of our primary points of contact and referrers in North and South America.  The session covered a broad range of topics focused largely on the fundamental points of caution from a tax perspective as far as the UK is concerned including residence, domicile and management and control issues. Find out more below.

Our webinars are designed to be informal and interactive and invite questions and comment both before and during the session so that the team can discuss and debate experience with attendees. The webinars are particularly relevant to those who have clients navigating the issues to consider in respect of the benefits and pitfalls of relocating to and/or acquiring connections, assets and investments in the UK.

By way of example, both prior to and during the webinar, the following queries were raised, discussed and developed;

  • how and when UK estate/inheritance tax is triggered for non-domiciled individuals and ways to navigate it;
  • where there are UK estate taxes and Probates required, what are the broad rules;
  • a recap of the way in which the UK tax treatment applicable to UK resident beneficiaries of foreign trusts is applied (e.g., UK residents who are beneficiaries of trusts governed by BVI, New Zealand, U.S. laws, etc.);
  • several queries and questions in connection with the ownership of UK real estate through offshore structures and the advantages and pitfalls bearing in mind the continued change in legislation and approach; and
  • discussion on England and Wales holding companies and their utility for corporates operating in more than one jurisdiction.

The webinar continues a popular series of webinars with points of contact and referrers who the team work with.
