2022 has been a year of turmoil and upheaval globally, both politically and economically.
Some of these challenges have impacted the Web3 community, while other issues and opportunities are unique to the industry itself. Globally, we have seen a post-pandemic economic downturn, further fuelled by energy prices and the war in Ukraine. Crypto winter has shaken out bad actors in the industry but also forced a retrenchment in job opportunities and investment in some areas, while others continue to survive and even outperform wider market conditions. In the UK and Europe, the advent of the Financial Services and Markets bill and MiCA are changing the regulatory landscape for the industry at the same time as the tech world is being shaken by Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter and speculation about what that means for payments and the future of social media.
In this End of Year Review, we look back at the past 12 months and explore the key priorities and challenges in 2023 for business builders in the crypto, blockchain, and Web3 industries.
